Stencil Mobiles

I tried something new over the weekend -- metal mobiles with stenciled designs. Each piece of flashing comes pre-painted brown on one side and white on the other, so the colors you see will change with the viewing angle.

Here's my first experiment (18" H x 18" W):

And my second, more ambitious one (28" H x 19" W):

This seems like a promising way to add texture, but so far, the designs look too random to me. I would like them to be more cohesive and integrated into the piece as a whole. Something to work on....
