Arcades Project, May 3

The fourth installment of the Arcades Project takes place this Friday, May 3, 5-9 pm, in Press Bay Alley, Ithaca, NY (on Green St., between Cayuga and Geneva Sts.). The Arcades Project is a series of curated events inspired by the writings of Walter Benjamin exploring the intersection of art, books, and commerce. Small presses, book artists, and other artists that use text or create small multiples all gather for one night to display their wares and engage with viewers/customers.

I will be sharing a table with local writer Zee Zahava. We've been developing a small corpus of sculpted prints and folded paper polyhedra that incorporate her charming haiku. From our project description:

The text is transformed from traditional flat presentation into complex shapes that invite each viewer to find his or her own way in. ... Werner has been working with sculpted prints for a while now. Zee has been publishing her small poems on her blog. This collaborative project encourages people to read text in a fresh way, and to see paper transformed into patterned wrinkles.
